On June 14, 2012, the Board of School Directors appointed Dr. Jeffrey Fuller to serve as the Superintendent for the Freedom Area School District. Dr. Fuller joined the district on July 1, 2012. Jeff comes from a family of educators and has spent the last 23 years as a teacher and administrator.

 

Dr. Fuller most recently served as the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education for the Seneca Valley School District in Western Pennsylvania, a position Jeff held for 6 and 1/2 years. Prior to serving as Assistant Superintendent, Jeff served as principal of Rowan Elementary School, also in the Seneca Valley School District, and as Elementary Principal in the Cranberry Area School District. Prior to moving into administration, Jeff spent nine years teaching sixth grade students in southeastern Virginia.

 

Jeff completed his undergraduate degree and teacher certification at Grove City College and his Master’s Degree and administrative certification at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. In December, 2008, Jeff successfully defended his dissertation and was awarded a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) and Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Duquesne University. His dissertation research focused on parental involvement in the educational process.

 

Dr. Fuller’s career in education has provided a rich array of background experiences that serve to guide the decision-making process. His teaching career was spent teaching sixth grade students in a variety of settings in two large urban/suburban school districts in south-eastern Virginia. After moving back to western Pennsylvania to begin his administrative career, Dr. Fuller spent several years as the principal of multiple schools in the small rural Cranberry Area School District in Venango County. One of the first challenges upon his arrival in Cranberry was the development of a Primary Center / Intermediate Center structure from two schools that had previously had a traditional K-5 elementary structure. By the time he left Cranberry, Dr. Fuller was the elementary principal responsible for all aspects of each of the district’s five elementary schools.

 

In 2003, Dr. Fuller transitioned to the Seneca Valley School District, a relatively large suburban/rural school district in southwestern Butler County, serving as principal of Rowan Elementary School. Then in 2006, he was appointed to the position of Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Instruction. During Dr. Fuller’s time on the leadership team, Seneca Valley experienced unprecedented academic growth, moving the district from 43^rd to 15^th place on the Pittsburgh Business Times’ Annual Guide to Western Pennsylvania Schools as a result of a concentrated focus on differentiated instruction supported by the appropriate use of assessment data. 
 

Dr. Fuller’s educational priorities include the development of standards-based instruction that is supported by assessment data and the appropriate implementation of instructional technology. He believes that with the development of state standards, the enforcement of the No Child Left Behind act, and the implementation of the Common Core State Standards, educators must continue to focus their efforts on the implementation of instruction that is driven by data from appropriate assessment tools. The sound implementation of instructional technology can serve to enhance instruction, simplify classroom management, and provide resources for student learning. It is the responsibility of the administrative team to provide the appropriate resources and professional education to support teachers in the implementation of these priorities.

 

Jeff and his wife, Amy, reside in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. They have two children – Jordan and Mackenzie. Jeff is actively involved in volunteer work with NorthBridge Community Church and the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. He also enjoys road cycling and going to Pittsburgh Penguins games with his family.
