• UPMC Sports Medicine provides a licensed athletic trainer to the Freedom Area School District.  Licensed athletic trainers are health care professionals who work under the direction of physicians to optimize the activity and participation of clients and patients.  Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.  This coverage includes pre-practice taping and wrapping, evaluation and rehabilitation of injuries, on-field/court coverage and first aid, and post-practice assessments.

At Freedom, we strive to provide top-notch health care to student athletes.  Parents can take an active role in assisting us by notifying us or a coach immediately if an athlete sustains an injury. Injuries are common to participation in athletics. With proper early intervention, we can often prevent an unnecessary trip to the emergency room.  If necessary, we can assist with the referral process for injuries that may require a higher level of service.
